Great Gift Ideas for Your College Girlfriend or Boyfriend

Have a girlfriend or boyfriend whos in college? Are you in college yourself? Need a great gift idea that isnt too dorky and is within your tight budget and time restrictions? 1. Online Music Gift Certificates Everyone has their favorite place online for music—including your girlfriend or boyfriend. Get them a gift certificate for their favorite site so they can add some new songs or albums to their collections. 2. A Big Night Off Campus Treat your partner to a night out—off campus. You both probably spend so much time on campus that going off-campus happens maybe once a month—if that. Treat your boyfriend or girlfriend to a night off-campus that you both can enjoy without bumping into ten million people that you both know. 3. School Clothes Spring for some clothes from your school or your partners favorite school. Does your boyfriend or girlfriend have a favorite school sports team? Do they love the school they currently attend? Treat him or her to a sweatshirt from the campus bookstore, something from an online seller, or even college-themed items from a local retailer. 4. A Night at His/Her Favorite Place Take your girlfriend or boyfriend out to his or her favorite club, bar, or restaurant. You both may hit the same places every weekend, but if you offer to splurge a little and treat for the both of you, it will feel extra fun and exciting. (Not to mention the free stuff many places give to people celebrating birthdays!) 5. Concert Tickets Major concert ticket prices may be more than you wanted to spend, but think about what your partner likes best. Find something local and a little more low-profile, such as a slam poetry competition or a taiko drum performance. 6. A Book By Their Favorite Author Buy a book by your partners favorite author. Being in college exposes most students to new and totally fabulous authors. Treat your girlfriend or boyfriend to a book by a new author theyve recently discovered. 7. A Book By an Author Theyve Never Heard Of You may have discovered an author you totally love but that your partner has never heard of. Or perhaps you have a professor who, say, writes poetry. Treat your significant other to something new and exciting that he or she might not otherwise be exposed to. (Added bonus: If you buy a book by your professor, you can ask him or her to sign it as well.) 8. A Special Delivery Go for a classic: delivery of flowers or a care package. Even if youre on the same campus, having something delivered to your boyfriend or girlfriend is guaranteed to be a hit. Who doesnt like receiving flowers or a care package? Consider the classic red roses or even something more fun, like a flower bouquet shaped like a cupcake or a bonsai tree. (Side note: With roses, in particular, the color you choose can send an additional message.) 9. A Meaningful Photo Print out a hard copy of a picture of you together. You undoubtedly have tons of pics with each other—on Facebook, on Instagram, on your cell phones, on your computers. But what about a nice, hard-copy printout with a nice frame? Check with online photo places for great deals and free shipping options. Remember, too, that you can print out pics youve already snapped by using websites that make Instagram prints. 10. Something to Make Their College Life Easier. It may not sound romantic at first, but getting that little gadget—a better bike lock, a jump drive, a wireless mouse—that your boyfriend or girlfriend has been wanting may make them incredibly happy. As an added bonus, theyll think of you every time they use it and remember your gesture of kindness.

The Film Of The Cage Directed By Coco Fusco And Paula Heredia

The documentary The Couple in the Cage directed by Coco Fusco and Paula Heredia consists of a video record about performance art in 1990s and a 1930s Hollywood film. In the video record, two performance artists dress up as indigenous from Gulf of Mexico and are declared by the guide that they cannot speak English (CIC). They come to some cities such as Chicago, Washington D.C., Minneapolis, New York City in U.S., Madrid in Sydney and Sydney in Australia (CIC), and they are put themselves in a big cage for visitors to watch and interact with. All their clothes and make-up makes them look like real natives: The male wear masks and clothes with pattern of tiger skin; the woman’s face is shaded by colorful painting and wear grass skirt exposing most of her body. In the cage, the woman dance with pop music, wear glasses and they curiously fiddle with TV sets, keyboards and cassette recorder which are all innovations from 20th century. At the same time, the visitors are charged to t ake photos with the couple and are interviewed to talk about their opinions. Some criticize that it is inhumane to confine the couple for displaying while some have no opinion about it. What is surprising is that the natives are actors who study the audiences more than the audiences study them. The alternating Hollywood black-white-silent depicts the scene that Indians constrained in the cage are exhibited to whites. The spectators look the Indians up and down, which is very similar to the scene in the

Mental Ill Health Is A Pervasive Public Health Issue Essay

Introduction Mental ill-health is a pervasive public health issue impacting about 46 per cent of Australians aged between sixteen and eighty-five during their lifetime (AIHW 2016, p. 2). Results from the National Health Survey (ABS 2015) revealed mental and behavioural conditions to be the most prevalent long-term health condition experienced by Australians. Here, anxiety-related conditions were most frequently reported (ABS 2015). Amid the Australian population, those aged between sixteen and twenty-four experience a mental health disorder in the last twelve months more often than other age groups (ABS 2014). Younger Australians, in particularly young women reported having an anxiety-related condition at twice the rate of males the same age (ABS 2014; Slade et al. 2009). Given the prevalence and overall burden of mental illness in the community, especially amongst vulnerable populations, the case study of Georgia, a twenty-two year old student with prevailing symptoms of anxiety will be analysed . To facilitate a comprehensive understanding of Georgia’s condition and associated concerns, an overview of what mental health is and how it can impact ones’ life as well as the implementation of holistic, recovery-based collaborative care to ensure person-centred needs are met will be discussed. Why Democracy is the Best Form of Government Essay

Introduction Throughout history different types of instrumental regimes have been in tact so civilizations remained structured and cohesive. As humanity advanced, governments obligingly followed. Although there have been hiccups from the ancient times to modern day, one type of government, democracy, has proven to be the most effective and adaptive. As quoted by Winston Churchill, democracy is the best form of government that has existed. This is true because the heart of democracy is reliant, dependent, and thrives on the populaces desires; which gives them the ability for maintaining the right to choose, over time it adjusts and fixes itself to engulf the prominent troubling issues, and people have the right of electing the person they†¦show more content†¦The party most suited to the demographic concerned, are the ones voted in. Moreover, instating the right to choose also facilitates the incentive for people to speak out against an unruly leader. When a large mass of civilians disagrees or is concerned with a party’s implementation of policies, they can extract their title from them. Just because a party is elected, does not mean that they will remain in power for the entire duration originally allotted to them. The presence of foreseeable change is crucial to a societies degree of satisfaction associated with their current governmental system. Alteration gives democracy the upper hand. For example, in Spain in 1982, when Prime Minister Leopolodo Calvo Sotelo completely terminated the party that supported what the people wanted, the people in office forcibly made him resign. Finally, democracy is the best form of government thus far because it is susceptible to change. The role of high courts, and equal rights makes change possible. For example, if the majority impedes on a minority groups’ rights, over time, the legislature will adjust, enumerating those who were previously attacked. Overall, democracy makes the necessary refinements needed to keep up with societal developments. Gay Parenting Controversy Essay Example For Students

Gay Parenting Controversy Essay Gay parenting is an issue that affects a great number of people worldwide. Although the number is a minority, the issue still causes heated debate. People who are in favor of Gay, Lesbian, and Bi-Sexual parenting rights claim that as long as there is a commitment to parenthood then successful parenting is achievable as a homosexual or bi-sexual. Since within a gay couple there is no chance for accidental pregnancy, the couple must make a conscious decision to become a parent. People opposed to homosexual parenting argue that homosexual couples are not capable of having long enduring strong relationships required for the successful upbringing of children. They claim it is in the childs best interest to be raised by one female and one male. Such a family would provide the best environment for healthy intellectual and emotional growth. Obviously the debate over homosexual parenting brings for concepts of individual rights and the definition of family. What the argument boils down to is the definition of a family. With family defined there is little argument over who is capable of becoming a parent. An editorial found in Pride Page, an online gay community news and information cite, offers a defense to the gay, lesbian, and bi-sexual right to parenthood. The article by Brian W. Fairbanks entitled Gay Parenting is still Parenting attempts to provide the reader with valid reasons as to why gay couples should be allowed to become parents. Fairbanks believes that the same reason a heterosexual couple should be allowed to have children is greater in homosexual couples. Heterosexual couples are given the right to child-rearing because the are seen as fit to be parents. Homosexual couples have the advantage. He points out that the only way a homosexual couple could become parents is through actively choosing to become a parent. In no way would it not be planned, unwanted, or unexpected. Fairbanks also argues, it takes love to make a family and sex is not a part of the equation. The author is clearly very level headed regarding this issue. He doesnt make outlandish remarks or accuse anyone as being the cause of the problem. He attempts to touch the readers heartstrings instead of raising anger. The evidence he presents is quite valid and believable. He brings forth one fact from the American Bar Association as well as three references to pop culture, which anyone can recognize. The author opens with reference to a quote from Jean Kerr; Now the thing about having a babyis thereafter you have it. Fairbanks argument is that this quote doesnt sink in with potential gay parents anymore than it does with many straight ones. In other words, he believes that no matter what the sexual orientation people simply dont realize all that is involved in having children. Parenting is to be taken seriously. It is hard work which necessitates selflessness, responsibility, and commitment that few peopleare always prepared to give. Here the author is trying to put homosexual couples on the same playing field as heterosexual couples. To define what it takes to be a good parent allows the reader to become subjective no matter what the point of view regarding gay parenting. I feel the method Fairbanks used was excellent in forcing myself to look at the true essence of parenting and opened the playing field for any point of view, which he was about to make. That next point would be regarding the choice of parenthood. Fairbanks claims there is one advantage homosexual couples have over heterosexual couples. There is no need for birth control or abortion and there is no fear of accidental pregnancy. .u0aafc887b35fb8d67406c91d80886f9f , .u0aafc887b35fb8d67406c91d80886f9f .postImageUrl , .u0aafc887b35fb8d67406c91d80886f9f .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u0aafc887b35fb8d67406c91d80886f9f , .u0aafc887b35fb8d67406c91d80886f9f:hover , .u0aafc887b35fb8d67406c91d80886f9f:visited , .u0aafc887b35fb8d67406c91d80886f9f:active { border:0!important; } .u0aafc887b35fb8d67406c91d80886f9f .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u0aafc887b35fb8d67406c91d80886f9f { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u0aafc887b35fb8d67406c91d80886f9f:active , .u0aafc887b35fb8d67406c91d80886f9f:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u0aafc887b35fb8d67406c91d80886f9f .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u0aafc887b35fb8d67406c91d80886f9f .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u0aafc887b35fb8d67406c91d80886f9f .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u0aafc887b35fb8d67406c91d80886f9f .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u0aafc887b35fb8d67406c91d80886f9f:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u0aafc887b35fb8d67406c91d80886f9f .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u0aafc887b35fb8d67406c91d80886f9f .u0aafc887b35fb8d67406c91d80886f9f-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u0aafc887b35fb8d67406c91d80886f9f:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Moose Essay Because of this homosexual couples must make that conscious decision; the intelligent, responsible choice to become a parent. If the parent(s) are willing to give themselves to have a child then, according to Fairbanks, that would make gays just as good of a candidate for parenthood as anyone else.
