Beauty Products

Shilo Kumpf English 101, 12:40-1:40 Final Beauty Products Dry skin is no fun, try this lotion out and your skin will never be dry again. A lot of ads for beauty products will have girls in the Pictures that have flawless faces and their eyes are perfect there skin looks like it has never seen a pimple before. What I see a lot of is â€Å"clinically proven†. â€Å" Smoother firmer skin as well†. These are just a couple of sayings that I see a lot of in these ads. You see it for lotions and foundations as well.Looking at Ads can be deceiving I think. As I flip through my People, Elle, and Lucky magazines I,am noticing certain things that catch my attention. The flashy pictures showing the product on Taylor Swift, Pink, and other celebrities. They use a lot of celebrities in these ads, making people think that it will work cause they see their favorite celebrity is using the product. I see a Origins ad and it says â€Å"clinically proven to heal dry skin†, along wit h â€Å"Keeping your skin hydrated for a full 48hrs†. In this picture it shows a lant of some sort and some water for the hydrating part. Then is goes into a short summary of what the product can do for your skin telling you that your skin could be dry because it’s lacking a molecule that their product carries. Do you think the product really works? Or are they just trying to get you to buy their product? Just because you see the flashy picture and the celebrity you think to yourself, yes it will work.As I look in the magazines I come across more beauty products that have more celebrities telling you that one bottle help it all, moother face, no more lines covers evenly. Again you see that flawless face the perfect eyes and you think that their product works cause if Ellen or Taylor Swift uses it then it works. Covergirl, how many people actually use it? A lot of people probably use it cause again they see the nice flawless face it gives you the perfect eyes you will h ave if you use their eyeliner, foundation and mascara together all together. On their foundation ad it it shows Rihanna looking so good with her face glowing and the tag ine under her says, â€Å"Take off that mask and let your skin breathe with clean makeup! † So of course people see that and think I would love to look like Rihanna’s perfect face. Why do ads make you think that you will look like a celebrity if you wear there makeup? Another Cover girl ad is a Taylor Swift one her light skin looks perfect they have the rite lighting on it the tag line says, â€Å"introducing a breath of fresh air flawless coverage with a light as air feel† They use the word â€Å"NEW† as well to atch the attention of many girls out there. Seeing the word new catches my attention I want to see the new product and use it of course. Also they use the word natural to make people think its good for you. I think in my opinion is they use photoshop to make these celebrities look good and make the people buy it. I could get on my Photoshop and make myself look flawless. Cause we all know that nobody is perfect in this world, just because you use cover girl or have a lot of money to make you look good your still like everybody else. (597ct)

Altruism in Society Campaign: Domestic Violence Essay

Domestic violence has become America’s most common crime and tragically its least reported. The percentages are overwhelming, and the statistics can be â€Å"hard to swallow,† but it is important to remember that behind each statistic is face with a name. The impact of violence is far reaching. How does a mother survive, not just the blows to her body, but the terror and fear written on her child’s heart and reflected in her child’s eyes?Domestic violence is defined as abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another partner. It can be physical, sexual, emotional, economic, or psychological actions or threats of actions that influence another person. This includes any behaviors that intimidate, manipulate, humiliate, isolate, frighten, terrorize, coerce, threaten, blame, hurt, injure, or wound someone. (USDOJ, 2009)It has been said that, â€Å"Domestic violence is America’s hidden w ar. And the battleground is in all our homes.† The truth of that statement is seen in the following statistics presented by Shank and Hunter (2009):Current estimates reveal that every 15 seconds an act of domestic violence occurs somewhere in the United States. Every 6 hours a woman is battered to death. Annually that translates into more than 2.5 million victims per year. And more than 1 million of those victims, primarily women, will have to seek medical assistance for injuries caused by battering. It is nearly impossible to comprehend the devastation and destruction that happens with a swift punch to the face or kick in the gut. Imagine yourself fleeing from an abusive partner in the middle of the night with two children, six dollars in your purse and the clothes you’re wearing. Where will you go? And if you manage to make it out alive, how will you support yourself? Here again the statistics reveal (http://www.silentwitness.net/sub/latest_reserch.htm#half) that this crisis has reached epidemic proportions:Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women between the ages of 15-44. Children are involved in 60% of domestic violence cases and more than three million of them will witness firsthand acts of domestic violence each year. Up to 50% of all homeless women and children are fleeing domestic violence. One in 10 calls made to alert police of domestic violence is placed by a child in the home. More than 53% of male abusers beat their children. One of every three abused children becomes an adult abuser or victim and research confirms that frequent exposure to violence not only predisposes children to social and physical problems, but also teaches them that violence is a normal way of life thus increasing their risk of becoming society’s next generation of victims and abusers. We, as a society and as individuals simply must grapple with the reality that every incidence of domestic violence a child witnesses changes that wiring in ways that can cause problems in development: excessive irritability, sleep issues, fear of being alone, difficulty in acquiring and using language. Boys who witness domestic violence between their parents are twice as likely to become abusive toward their own spouses†¦and girls are at higher risk of entering and remaining in an abusive relationship. Direct service programs that will help mothers and their children as they face new and different challenges must be created. They need access to legal, financial and emotional counseling to assist in making sense of the new realities, including networking opportunities for employment and housing that will make it possible for her to turn this new safety into a new future. According to family theory family abuse is a result of members who act by omission or commission physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, or other forms of maltreatment that hampers individual healthy development. (Olson) Coping abilities include education, training, and utilization of resources. Adaptive models of behavior affect physiological and psychological well being. Self-concept, role functions, and interdependent relations are some of the area identified as needs. Ineffective response to abuse leads to disruption in the integrity of the  family, psychological trauma affects functioning by increasing stress and decreasing morale. (Pejic, 2005)The Campaign†Domestic violence is control by one partner over another in a dating, marital or live-in relationship. Domestic violence occurs in every culture, country and age group. It affects people from all socioeconomic, educational and religious backgrounds and takes place in same sex as well as heterosexual relationships†¦. Children are also affected by domestic violence, even if they do not witness it directly.† (APA, 2009) Domestic violence is a global problem, and it is in need of a global solution. Statistically, children raised around domestic violence are more likely to become the next generation of abusers and victims. Therefore, a campaign directed at children, with the right message from the people who have survived it, would be the most plausible option for cutting down on domestic violence. There are many programs available for victims of domestic abuse. There are hotlines and help centers, there are local centers, and there are financial programs to help victims get out of dangerous situations. There are very few programs targeting children specifically, and there are no programs that target children on a mass level. If a program could be launched through the school systems, from the perspective of people who were once victims, that focused on educating children about domestic violence and offered assistance for them and their families, hypothetically, the rate of domestic violence should have an immediate decrease and a dramatic decrease over time. Programs like D.A.R.E (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) are around to teach children how to say no to drugs on a mass level. Schools across the nation support this program, and many schools have a â€Å"Drug Week† where drug awareness is promoted. If domestic violence awareness could be approached on the same level, more children could be reached. There are many children and adults suffering silently as they deal with domestic violence. Children should always have an outlet for their experiences, and having a person whom handles the situations they are dealing with available through their schools can provide that outlet. School counselors may open the school year with the standard introduction to whom they are and what they do, but, when dealing with domestic violence specifically, the students may need more  encouragement than that. Schools could easily devote more time to domestic violence awareness and make it known to their students that they have the ability to provide services and find providers of services for their students. While increasing the promotion of awareness comes at an expense, all those involved are, in a sense, helping themselves. Considering that the health related costs of rape, physical assault, stalking and homicide exceed 4.1 billion dollars each year for direct medical and mental health services, and, according to a 1994 study, 37% of all emergency room visits were for violence related injuries, the cost of this type of program would be minimal for the possible benefits. Also, the former victims are able to work through their past experiences while sharing and helping the next generation. The individuals and companies that would be involved in funding would be protecting future generations; the next abuse victim could be anybody’s son, daughter, or grandchild; all abuse victims are somebody’s child, sibling, or parent. It is in everybody’s best interest to support domestic violence awareness. â€Å"In the long run, [this] helping behavior benefits the giver as well as the receiver.† (Myers, 2009, p. 429)The cost and time of setting up the additional awareness education would be the biggest setback for those interested in launching the program. The project’s effectiveness would be a long-term consideration. The immediate and short-term benefits would still be worth the effort. If one child goes home to a safer environment and a happier family, the project has succeeded. Providing children with information on domestic violence and opening the doorway to communication gives them the chance to come forward with the situations they’re dealing with. Knowing that there is somebody available in their school with connections to various forms of assistance might make the difference in a child silently living with abuse in his or her home. Victims and abusers are found in every social and economic class, race, religious group, and sexual orientation and without intervention, the cycle of violence will continue. That’s why it’s crucial that people work together to support women escaping the danger in their homes. For a woman escaping domestic violence to be really free, she must have a path forward. People simply cannot be silent observers but must become passionate advocates. Society must not allow elected officials, or policy makers, or bureaucrats, or disinterested community members ignore the tragedy of domestic violence and its impact on our children and our children’s children. Society must support local and national efforts that provide direct services to those impacted by domestic violence as everybody should to be educated on how to be a source of help to those needing to flee an abusive situation. Research indicates that domestic homicide is considered the most predictable and preventable of all homicides therefore, the ultimate goal of any intervention is to help save the lives of domestic violence victims and provide tangible hope and healing to the courageous woman who break free from the nightmare of domestic violence but need assistance in order to build a new life, one that does not resemble her previous one. Women battle, sometimes hourly, to free themselves from the cycle of domestic violence whether physical, emotional or sexual, and may have long since abandoned her dreams of peace and safety. So the next time you hear someone say, â€Å"It’s not that bad†¦Ã¢â‚¬ Share with them this quote by Representative Mark Green of Wisconsin: â€Å"If the numbers we see in domestic violence were applied to terrorism or gang violence, the entire country would be up in arms, and it would be the lead story on the news every night.† Inaction is to condone America’s hidden war. â€Æ'References American Psychiatric Association (2009). Passion to Profession

Customer Service What is customer service? Customer service is the process of ensuring customer satisfaction with a product or service. â€Å"Customer service is not about you or your company, it is about the customer. – It is about the customer's wants, needs, and expectations. † (Bolden, Colon, 2010) Often, customer service occurs while performing a transaction for a customer such as making a sale or returning an item. It can take the form of personal interaction, a phone call, or by other means. It is an important part of our job and should not be seen as an extension of it.A company’s most vital asset is its customers and without them, we would not and could not exist in business. When you satisfy our customers, they not only help us grow by continuing to do business with you, but recommend you to friends and associates. Every single contact with a customer can either cultivate or corrode the relationship with a customer. This includes every letter or email t hat is sent out, every ad that may run and every phone call made. Working as a Medical Assistant in a doctor’s office is direct contact with patients in many aspects. Similar essay: HR Profession Map ExplainedThe customer service starts from the moment the patients walk into the office. Many patients have questions and concerns about their treatments, illnesses, tests, lab results, financial status, etc. , and it is the job of a medical assistant to effectively serve the patient to their satisfaction. My career goal is to teach in the Allied Health field and customer service is a must. The three-fold Bachelor’s degree I am now working on at Florida Technical College consists of Health Service Administration, Health Information Technology and Medical Assistant. It will equip me to teach clinical and practical skills to Medical Assistants and other health professionals. In order to accomplish my goal to teach, it is imperative that I learn effective customer service skills. When dealing with students, customer service means going the extra mile, helping students with their questions and their thirst for knowledge. It also means making sure tha t when it’s time to start the clinical practice; each student understands technique and the importance of following rules and guidelines. In all sense, teaching requires good communication and customer service skills.Teachers provide a service, provide the community with educated people, provide the students with a safe learning environment, and provide the students with useful and relevant education. Teachers do not only teach class, they send out emails, post updates on blogs, have a website on a server; they motivate the students to learn what I know they need to learn. In order to be a good teacher, you have to develop a program that is suitable for your students. You must prepare activities which can enhance the physical, intellectual and cultural abilities of students.A teacher can do so much better in their career and in accomplishing their educational goals with their students if they would add a little customer service strategy to their teaching. Communication Commun ication is a two-way process of reaching a mutual understanding in which participants not only exchange (encode-decode) information, news, ideas and feelings but also create and share meaning. (Graham, Paul, 2006) Communication involves means such as listening, speaking, writing and reading. All these means can be used for an active communication process. In general, communication is a means of connecting people or places. Many times, one of the biggest challenges people face when developing customer relations skills is empathy. If we are empathetic, it helps us better understand a person or situation, enables us to resolve differences, build trust and respect, and is imperative in leadership. In my personal experience in the medical field, communication has always been very important, and has also gone hand in hand with empathy–the ability to identify with and understand somebody else's feelings or difficulties.Good customer service cannot exist without communication. When I worked as manager of an assisted living facility in Lewiston, Idaho, my job was communication between the elderly residents and their families, doctors’ offices, hospitals, and healthcare and social service agencies. Many times I was liaison between the resident and Medicare/Medicaid. Effective communication required phone calls, conversations with residents and family members in order to make important healthcare decisions, formal and informal memorandums to staff and/or management, and formal professional letters. In all essence, customer service and communication cannot work individually. Communication in all its aspects is imperative for effective customer relations. References: 1. Bolden ,Colon. Jun 28, 2010. Customer Service Tips-The Best Way to Treat People. Killing the Internet Sopa/Pipa Essay

â€Å"Kill the Internet- and Other Anti-SOPA Myths† In this article of â€Å"Kill the Internet- and Other Anti-SOPA Myths†, the author Goldberg indicates that basically anything that was posted on the internet was at risk with the anti-piracy. This is just technically stating that everything that is posted on the internet has the ability to be plagiarized or abuse the copyright act. As well as Google’s ability to be making money off of everything that is being posted onto their website ( â€Å"Google alone generated more than $37 billion in 2011, more than double the revenue of all record companies, major and indie combined† ). One of the major companies that Google made more money than, was the movie industries. SOPA/ PIPA are not policing Yahoo or Google their policing â€Å"us the people who illegally† watch movies online. Despite that illegally watched movies break every rule of copyright, it’s a thing that happens daily on the internet: it’s an underlying issue that scales rapidly. For example, as mentioned on the article sharing has become a common theme among Facebook and Megaupload subscriptions making the guidelines for SOPA/PIPA and Copyright Acts blurry at times. There is simply just no way has that copyrighted guidelines to be followed strictly on the internet. It would be absurd to file a copyright lawsuit for a video shared on Facebook of children singing happy birthday at a party. Here is where guidelines get blurry, â€Å"There is a profound moral difference between lending a friend a book and posting, without permission, the content of best sellers for commercial gain† to simply help the people out there. Despite the government’s efforts to ban all illegal activity on the internet; SOPA/PIPA was not the best policies they could have come up with. They were loose with word â€Å"censorship† with which the government reserves the power to restrict ideas. If you think about it, it is a kind of repression which violates our first amendment. (The freedom of speech) If the government continues, with his idea of controlling the internet in order to prevent any information â€Å"leaks† they could drive us into the repression that is now common in china where most computers and cell phones search history is control and monitored. Instead the government should focus on specific laws that would try and prevent individuals from illegally post ing  movies and any other digital content artifact for free on the internet. In conclusion, Danny Goldberg was right about having protest against the PIPA and SOPA anti-piracy bills. I do agree with his point that we should have internet freedom, yet some guidelines should be put into play to prevent the distribution of illegal content through the internet, but not as harsh as the bills have mentioned before.

Auditing - Essay Example This is unless permission is granted by the client for such discloser (Boritz 2004, 29). However, the above principle can be violated in the following circumstances: if it is a requirement in a legal proceeding, if it is a professional requirement, and to protect public interest in a situation where the fraud is discovered. ii. Wendy has been practicing as an auditor of Ace Limited audit for a number of years and subsequently appointed for the post of secretary, after the retirement former Secretary. When conducting an audit function, auditors are required to be objective and independent in their judgement. If Wendy continued to act in this position, conflict of interest will arise; this is because she will be assessing her own work thus impairing the principle of objectivity. If Wendy wishes to carry on as a secretary, then she should resign first as an audit partner or otherwise compromise the audit firm’s integrity. 2. i. Audit risk can be defined as the risk that an audito r will give the wrong audit report or opinion when the financial report has been significantly misstated or miss presented (Pickett 2006, 214). According to (Gray and Manson (2008, 73), it is the responsibility of the audit team to reduce this risk to the acceptable level for final report’s reliability. ... The second scenario talks of detection risk which could occur due to failure of the auditor’s substantive procedures to detect any misappropriation and fraud in the company. In this case bankers might have relied on the report to continue providing the finance which could be misleading. ii. According to Gray and Manson (2008, 73), inherent risk is the susceptibility that class of transaction or account balances are materially misstated according to the inherent factors and internal environment. This is without the consideration of control systems. This risk depends on: economic situation of the industry at large, integrity of management team, nature of the business entity, unusual obligation on management and knowledge-base of the entire management team. Getaway Pty Limited is considering a change on its top management with extremely different business strategies and procedures which significantly adds on to its inherent risk. 3. a) As an audit senior of Harmony Pty Ltd togeth er with an audit assistant, the audit function of stock take which is done as per the laid instruction.
